Honorable Carrie Blumert

Oklahoma County Commissioner District #1

January 6, 2021

Dear Oklahoma County Resident:

Oklahoma County District 1 has been working diligently to clean up debris in our district from the October 2020 ice storm. Our on-going response has focused on removing debris from the right-of-ways along county section-line roads.

Following the recent approval of a federal disaster declaration for Oklahoma County, District 1 is expanding our debris removal efforts to include the right-of-ways within the incorporated areas of Lake Aluma, Forest Park, Spencer, Jones, and in unincorporated areas not adjacent to section line roads.

In order to assist you, please follow the guidelines below for removal of debris from public right-of-ways in these areas, as follows:

  1. All debris must be moved to the right-of-way no later than January 23, 2021.
  2. Only vegetative debris will be removed. Vegetative debris mixed with any other type of trash, etc. will not be removed from the right-of way and you will be responsible for removing all materials placed in the right-of-way.
  3. If you have contracted with a company for debris removal, then the contractor is responsible for removal and disposal of all debris.
  4. Oklahoma County will issue cease-and-desist letters to contractors leaving any debris in the right-of-way.
  5. Vegetative debris must be placed at least 10 feet from the edge of the curb or road and branches cannot be longer than 12 feet.
  6. Debris will not be picked up if closer than 6 feet to utility poles, natural gas risers or meters, telephone pedestals, or mail boxes.

In the meantime, we encourage local jurisdictions to provide controlled dump sites for those residents who are able to complete the work themselves. Disposal of vegetative debris can be done by either chipping or burning. All disposal sites must be approved by DEQ and certified by the State archeological department prior use.

If you need further assistance please contact our Superintendent, Brian Jasper at (405) 713-2364.

Sincerely

Oklahoma County District #1
